Who We Are
In The Wild is owned by Britt Evans, and Cody Evans. Dog have always been a passion of ours, with both of us growing up with family companions. In 2019 we decided to make to plunge into purebred dogs and got our first Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Duke. Our passion for the breed quickly grew as Duke was everything we could have asked for in a family companion, hunting dog and show dog. Shortly after getting Duke we met Nicole and Leeza of Bearspaw Finnish Lapphunds and helped them show their dog Kielo. It didn’t take long for Kielo to be so bonded to Britt that she came to stay with us. After Kielo came to stay with us, it started an amazing family like friendship wit Nicole and Leeza, with endless support and knowledge, and a lifetime friendship. Duke and Kielo were foundation to the start of a dream.
In 2021 we made the decision to add another Griff to the family and welcomed Duchess to our home. The intention was for Duchess to be Britts hunting dog, though in 2023 that all changed as Duchess got an incredible bond to a young junior handler and is now shared between the homes. In 2023 we added Yoko to our family as our third griffon, she in an amazing hunting dog, and is very true to the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon standard. Yoko thrives in the field, and tolerates the conformation ring as long as she is handled by her favorite person, Britt. By 2024 we were so in love with the breed that we welcomed our 4th Griffon, Lalo to our home. Lalo spends half his time here in Alberta with us and the other half in Quebec with his breeder and co-owner Aline Tremblay. Aline has been an incredible support to us with our journey in the Griffons, offering a large amount of knowledge, endless support and a friendship we would never give up. Aline is the breeder of 3 out of 4 of our griffons.
Our journey with the Finnish Lapphunds has been a fun and unexpected journey. After getting Kielo in 2019, she was our only Lapphund for a while. She spent some time in the show ring, as well as learning a long list of tricks. For many years she was Britts side kick dog. In late 2022 after she passed all her health testing, we decided she could have a litter of puppies. We found her the perfect match and had a beautiful litter of 6. Peski, the sire of the litter, came to live with us shortly after as he was quite attached to Cody. We decided to keep a stunning male from the litter, Gram. In 2023 we brought Mose home to be out oldest son Jaydens best friend and show partner and they have done spectacular together. By 2024 we were ready to bring in out first Finnish Import dog, Karhu, and he has added a lot of spunk to the house, with his silly personality. In late summer 2024 Kielo was back in the whelping box with another litter of puppies, where we kept our Kielo daughter Riot.
Though sometimes life gets crazy and busy with 2 young kids and a house full of dogs, we would not have it any other way. We take pride in the quality and condition of our dogs, and thrive to better both breeds, Finnish Lapphunds and Wirehaired Pointing Griffons. We look forward to watching our kennel grow, and meeting more amazing people along the way.
